Name Anjula Acharia
Occupation Investor, Manager

Country of Residence USA

Anjula Acharia is a marvelous chameleon, straddling her success seamlessly between being a tycoon investor with Trinity Ventures and a celebrity manager of Bollywood-cum-Hollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra.

As a partner at venture capital firm Trinity Ventures, she has worked to transform portfolio companies into global brands, as well as to further Trinity’s campaign for greater diversity in tech. Also an angel investor, Acharia has been integral in launching impactful startups like the fitness industry disrupter ClassPass and the definitive career resource for millennials The Muse.

Fear is just a false illusion and magic is possible if you believe in it.

Prior to Trinity, Acharia co-founded Desi Hits! — a multi-platform media company producing and distributing fusion entertainment content aimed at the South Asian diaspora — which was backed by Jimmy Iovine, co-founder of Interscope Records and Beats Electronics. Acharia was instrumental in introducing mega-stars Lady Gaga, 50 cent and Britney Spears to India, and thereafter, launching Priyanka Chopra’s career in the United States. Acharia now works alongside the actress, singer and star of the hit ABC television series Quantico as her Hollywood manager.

However, Acharia does not consider herself to be a typical manager; she considers herself  to be more of a co-creator, driven to figure out ways in which to tell the story of her subject in a way that will connect with her diverse audience, making them feel like they’re witnessing the journey of a rare iconic star transcending continents.

I like telling my story because I like focusing on the fact that I am a woman and I didn’t have an Ivy League education. I am a minority and have a whole list of things going against me if conventional wisdom was to be the judge, which would only make someone say, ‘We would never invest in her.’ But they did! And I just think we should focus on positive stories like that if we are to parlay and build upon what has gone before us.

Acharia was named one of Billboard’s 2014 International Power Players and Top 40 Women in Music. Thanks to her passion for mentoring entrepreneurs and bridging the gap between technology and entertainment, she was also named as one of Vanity Fair’s 2010 Next Establishment list honorees, as a “titan disrupting media, technology and culture.” In 2016, Elle magazine listed her as one of the top women in tech, and, that same year, Forbes Magazine called her one of “the top women executives of Indian heritage you need to know.”

Acharia is committed to encouraging the development and success of young women, which has brought her to sit on the advisory board of such initiatives as the United Nation Foundation’s “Girl Up”campaign, promoting programs for the health, safety, education and leadership of girls in developing countries. Her connection to her work with women and girls is very personal, and there is no doubt that this South Asian powerhouse will continue inspiring women for generations to come.

Anjula Acharia was included in The ANOKHI Sexy & Successful List in 2009 and 2010 and in The ANOKHI Prestige List in 2012.
