Focusing On The Greater Good
Last year we launched our first ever fully digital The ANOKHI POWER List 2018 as part of our 15th anniversary celebrations. And in keeping with tradition, and with November being our anniversary month, we were thrilled to start thinking about what this year’s theme would be.
We wanted to make this year’s list indicative of today’s global vibe — the overall sense of working towards a better world. The unbreakable spirit of community and duty is palpable regardless of where you live. That desire to do good has no geographical, racial or gender boundaries. We simply share one goal: to make the world a better place.
And it is in this spirit that we wanted to take this time and tip our hats to those who are doing just that, looking to make a positive difference in their world.
Once word got out of our mandate for this year’s list, aptly entitled The ANOKHI PASSION List 2019, we were flooded with nominations submitted to us by our global community of readers, colleagues and friends. And, of course, there were the names we came across in our news feeds and in casual conversations with friends. Our initial list was huge. It thrilled us to see so many people working on various projects and charities, from various industries, around the world, but we needed to edit it down to 30 (the ordeal, yikes). Thirty profiles to span the 30 days of November; one a day in honour of a global community that is firmly entrenched in giving back.
What we discovered, was that there are endless ways one can make a difference and that change can come in all shapes and sizes, from global movements to local initiatives and everything in between. Whether it’s cleaning up the beaches of Mumbai, India, to fighting the cultural battle against shadism, or ensuring a safe space for survivors of sexual assault, every effort counts towards the greater goal: wanting to make the world a better place for now and for the future.
And this is why we are especially thrilled to be bringing you The ANOKHI PASSION List 2019. Because that sense of global citizenship, of working as a collective to bring about positive change for the greater good is, simply put, powerful.
We want you to read these profiles and be inspired by them. It may spark an idea of your own to help make a change in your neighbourhood, company or industry. Why? Because one thing that we’ve realized is that every effort, regardless of size, counts. And to that point, we are thrilled to be doing our part in shedding light on these South Asian changemakers who are making a difference, not only in their own lives, but in the lives of those around them. We are truly inspired by this list of 30 exceptional personalities and strongly believe that you will be too.
Putting together a list like this is no easy feat and takes a village. To that end, I would like to thank The ANOKHI PASSION List 2019 team, both in front of and behind the scenes:
